406 Day

Happy 4/06 Montana Day!!! because we have one area code (406) for all one million of us living in this incredible state. And if you want to drive from one side to the other - you'd be driving the same distance as one going from Washington D.C. to Chicago. My sweet and smallish Missoula County is twice the size of Rhode Island. We are one big state with the Pacific time zone on one side and the Central time zone on the other. Yes, we are a Time Zone, a land of independent hearty-sturdy (as in we have big hearts like our big sky and we're strong too) people who don't flinch at difficult weather, but pause to watch the sunrise. We elected an amazing woman to represent us in Congress in 1916 and again in 1940 - Jeannette Rankin - the only woman who voted to give women the right to vote. She said, "I may be the first woman member of Congress but I won’t be the last."

And I'm proud to be a MT woman who successfully changed one of our laws.
